Labor Rate and Material Cost Updates

The cost estimating calculators at Homewyse.com now reflect the following changes:

  • Labor Rate Change United States Bureau of Labor reports wages for home construction, remodeling and maintenance professionals have remained steady in the past 3 months, with the level of change over the past 3 months has been less than 1% for all trade labor tracked by Homewyse. The volatility of the labor market continues however and can be noted by "adjustments" made by the Bureau of Labor Statistics to prior period estimates, ranging back as far as 2023.
  • Material Unit Cost Changes For a majority of materials, prices continue to stabilize, with few categories changing by more than 2% in the past 3 months.Rental prices for equipment have increased significantly. The average rental price increase has been 19% since the last rental price update. Softwood lumber and some fencing materials have seen a decrease in pricing of about 6% in the past 3 months. Composition Roofing costs have increased 5%. Insulation prices have increased 8%. Concrete costs have decreased 8%. Door prices have increased 13%. It is believed that some vendors have added anticipatory price increases due to their tariff expectations, however the full impact of tariffs will likely not be reflected in material prices for approximately 3-6 months. Lumber prices should be confirmed with suppliers before large lumber orders.
