Home Addition - Pricing Notes

  • This estimate for a 2021 Home Addition is derived from the unit cost method summarized in the American Institute of Architects Detailed Cost Estimating - Best Practices. This approach is used by professional designers, contractors, engineers and estimators and uses current wages, material costs, worker productivity benchmarks, supervisory overhead and markup rates.
  • Labor costs for the home addition are based on United States Bureau of Labor Statistics Industry-Specific Employment and Wage Estimates - and adjusted for fair overhead, profit and as indicated, supervisory markup.
  • Labor hours include time for basic job planning, setup and site preparation, material handling, fabrication of installed materials, installation and cleanup.
  • Supplies include fittings, adhesives, sealers, finishes and accesssories, as well as equipment costs and disposal fees required to complete the home addition as specified in the Project Options section.
  • See the Material Costs summary page for other finish and fixture options.
  • The home addition estimate does not include sales taxes, permit fees or hazardous material remediation costs (e.g. mold, asbestos, lead).
  • Finish options (fixtures, appliances, cabinetry, flooring, etc.) must be estimated separately. See the Project Costs summary page for a list of room finishing project calculators.
  • These estimates are for BASIC work performed in serviceable conditions by qualified trade professionals using MID GRADE materials.
