allowance

An allowance is a pre-defined sum of money set aside in the construction contract for items which have not been specified in the construction contract. It is often the case that the allowance amount may not adequately cover homeowner expectations for a particular item; for this reason it is strongly recommend that the construction contract contain as few allowances as possible.
